What is a Citrus Juicer?

A citrus juicer is used specifically for juicing fresh citrus fruits – oranges, grapefruits, limes and lemons. A citrus juicer is not designed for juicing vegetables, wheatgrass and non citrus fruit such as apples or pears. I use a citrus juicer every day for juicing lemons.

A citrus juicer allows me to easily and quickly extract a greater quantity of juice in a shorter time frame. Citrus juicers are easy to clean and more simple to use than fruit and vegetable juicers.

Examples of Citrus Juicers or Juice Reamers are as follows:

1.A Citrus Squeezer or Hand Reamer is made of wood, glass or metal and consists of a conical shaped head with a handle. You hold the handle and ream the conical head into the cut fruit to release the juice. I find juicing by hand with a citrus squeezer or hand reamer makes a mess and the yield is low.

2.A Manual Citrus Juicer has a conical ridged center made of glass, metal or plastic. You place the center halves of the citrus fruit with their cut side down over the conical ridge of the juicer.Press the fruit down and turn back and forth to extract natural fruit juice. The fruit pulp and seeds are contained in the edges of the juicer.

3.A citrus juicer which is an electric version of a hand reamer has more power and operates by a pressure-activated cone. Place the citrus fruit onto the cone which extracts the juice as the cone spins. When you release pressure the machine automatically stops. I use a Black & Decker citrus juicer which is quick and easy to use and has a 1 liter pitcher for retaining fresh juice. 4.A Citrus Press uses more manual force and literally crushes the juice out of the fruit. It's most effective for producing fresh citrus juice.
